Bethlehem Hailu Dejene, Ph.D.
A transplant from the East African country of Ethiopia, I have lived…
between cultures as an American and Ethiopian for the past 22 years across major cities in the US. As a former archeologist and currently, as a faculty in the field of anthropology, my research and love for world cultures have taken me on adventures across five continents. I decided to join Go Culture when the classroom felt too small to contain my enthusiasm for sharing experiences of living in third cultures, transitioning between cultures, and learning the culture of higher education. Whether it is in English or Amharic, intermediate Spanish or Arabic, or a bit of French and Korean, I am committed to meet the needs of your transitional process. However, human communication is beyond language proficiency. I hope to use my lived experience to bring compassionate understanding to your specific concerns.
Originally from Castle Rock, CO, Abigail Chowning is a former
missionary, educator, and international student. Some of her most enjoyable experiences abroad were studying in Greece, Israel, Turkey, and the Czech Republic and serving as a member of the English Faculty at the China University of Geosciences in Wuhan, China. She founded and served as the Director and Producer of the Covenant Children’s Hospital Performance series in Lubbock, TX. She also served as the assistant director of the Presidential Lecture & Performance series at Texas Tech University for two seasons. She received a Bachelor’s Degree in Theatre Performance and Technical Theatre from Faulkner University and graduated from Texas Tech University with her MFA in Arts Administration. She currently lives in Lubbock, TX with her husband, Luke, and fur children Missy & Indy.

I am excited to be a member of the Go Culture International
team. I know, with absolute confidence, that I can guide you in becoming the best version of yourself as you prepare for business, mission work, or studying abroad. I began my career in business over 20 years ago after completing an MBA. In that capacity I have served as a leader of large and small organizations – always leading with soul as I put the needs of stakeholders at the forefront of each endeavor. My role has always been to facilitate their growth in moving toward goal achievement.
Along my career journey I earned a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Human Resource Studies. It has been a wonderful marriage between my MBA and Ph.D. As a life-long learner I was thrilled to start my career in higher education simultaneously while in the world of business. I began my second career as an adjunct instructor teaching business courses for the Hasan School of Business at Colorado State University-Pueblo, then assumed other roles of coaching business clients, working with community groups on special projects, or working directly with students outside the classroom to help foster an engaging total-college experience. As my career advanced, I transitioned to other colleges and universities embracing various director positions (i.e. student activities, online learning, professional development) and eventually became a vice president for academic and student affairs in New Mexico and Texas, then Provost for a faith-based college in East Texas.
Today, my passion is to travel the world – enjoy new cultures and meet amazing people. I consider myself a citizen of the planet, therefore it is my responsibility to embrace, nurture, and inspire others to reach beyond their perceived limits and enjoy life! My home base is Colorado, but I live…well, everywhere! I have five amazing adult children, nine grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren – all of whom are the diamonds in my heart.
I would love to work with you, so please…click the Let’s Talk button below and we’ll develop a lasting relationship – I guarantee it!
